It’s December. The trees are losing their leaves and are almost bare, Saint Nicholas is approaching, and we cannot get “All I Want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey out of our heads.
But what is A.S.V.Gay doing this time of year? We have been the board of A.S.V.Gay for almost two months now, and we are doing our jobs on the board more and more smoothly; Derk is making the best agendas, Rob is rewriting the company rules, Melissa cannot stop taking minutes, Max is trying to assemble the committees, Jeroen has appointment after appointment, and I keep counting money.
The committees have now been formed and are in full swing. The drinks committee (Borrelcommissie BoCo) has organized its final activity for the year, the Halloween Drink. The committee will be changed after the year’s last get-together. The Halloween Drink is one of the few themed drinks where almost everyone is dressed up. We all shudder and shiver throughout the evening, enjoying blood shots.
This year, the theme of our Halloween Drink was A.S.V.Gay Horror Story. The members of the BoCo were dressed as crazy doctors, trying to make us even more gay with Blood Moon shots. Clearly, this get-together was a great success.
In the period between the changing of the old to the new committees, the board itself always organizes a number of activities. This year, for instance, we organized a games night at the cosy café Gollem aan het Water. It was attended by both old and new members. Which Amsterdammer doesn’t like a games night during this rainy and windy period of the year. It is clear that playing games with a nice specialty beer is a popular among the members of A.S.V.Gay.
At the moment, the board is busy with so-called constitutional drinks (CoBos). With this drink, a board celebrates that they are now constituted as board; they are now officially a board. At such get-togethers, former boards of our association and boards of other associations in Amsterdam attend to congratulate the new board. These get-togethers can get pretty rough, because board members and things from the board can get “taken.” This means that other boards can take things with them, and if the board wants these back, they have to do something in return; organizing a dinner party for instance. This CoBo took place on November 5th. Many boards dropped by to congratulate us bearing gifts. On to the next activity!
We are now getting ready for hibernation. But don’t worry, you’ll see plenty of us on social media this month. So, keep following us! Love!
